Tip of the Week

Get ready for the coming snow by spraying your snow-shovel with a silicon spray, or even a vegetable oil spray.  It will keep the snow from sticking to the shovel.

Spotlight on Charity

For the first time in Super Bowl history, the NFL is partnering with all 32 NFL cities to deliver gift-filled baskets to 7,000 hospitalized children.  This project is a collaborative effort between Riley's Children Hospital, the Basket of Hope program and former Indianapolis Colts coach, Tony Dungy.

On January 30, volunteers will fill each basket with items offering the children inspiration, entertainment and hope.

While this Super Bowl program is a unique event, the Basket of Hope program has been delivering baskets to ill children since 1995.

National spokesman for the program Coach Dungy notes “I think this program does as much for the volunteers as it does for the kids. To see the fight and resolve these children have is truly special. After these visits, we feel they’ve helped us see life more clearly.”

For more information of the Super Basket of Hope program or the Riley Children's Foundation, visit their websites.

Give Back or Pay it Forward: Helping the Community

January, a cold month.  Blood banks are notoriously low on supplies in the winter months.

You can save a life...get in touch with the American Red Cross to find out where you can donate blood, time or money.

Inverter Technology: Variable Speed is the Way of the Future in HVAC

By definition, energy efficiency means using the minimum amount of energy to produce the most output.  That being said, doesn't it make sense to use technology that works by starting with a low energy boost and increasing to get the desired effect, rather than going full blast and wasting energy getting down to where you want to be? That is the idea behind Variable Speed Technology.  With the changes currently taking place within the newer HVAC systems, moving from single-stage to multi-stage…See More

Winter and the Elderly: Lend a Hand

It seems as if the easy ride into winter has ended.   It's getting cold, and quickly.   While most of us are capable of keeping ourselves warm as the temperatures plummet, not so the elderly.   Take the time to visit a senior neighbor or relative.  Going to the store in cold or bad weather can be an energy-sapping, and even dangerous adventure for those less nimble.  Offer to pick-up their groceries as you do your own shopping.  Walk their dog.  Check on their furnace, have they had an oil…See More
