Imagine your cell phone rings and it's an unsolicited phone marketer. Now just imagine, with a presidential election next year, all the unwanted political cell phone calls you might receive.
Well that could happen if Congress agrees to it. The "Mobile Information Call Act" is an amendment to the Communications Act of 1934, and will allow political committees, political action groups and other political organizations to call you on your mobile phone. If passed, it would allow automated dialing to your cell phone and you would either hear a pre-recorded message, or would be handed off to a live person. While there would be ways to opt out of specific campaigns, there will be many ways to skirt around the opt-out.
So, what to do? Contact your congressional representative and state your opposition to this bill. Or visit the National Political Do Not Contact Registry to sign a petition to make your opposition known to your state representative. You can also follow @EndTheRoboCalls on Twitter.
If the idea of wasting your cell phone minutes with political robocalls is more than just annoying, contact your state representatives and let your opinion be heard.
